7 Up 7 Down rules

7 Up 7 Down is the short card table a lot of Indian rooms keep beside Teen Patti. The dealer turns one card. Ace to 6 is 7 Down. 8 through king is 7 Up. A 7 belongs to neither side. You pick a lane before the card shows, and that is the whole decision.

On this demo, 7 Down and 7 Up pay 1 to 1. The 7 pays 11 to 1. There are 24 cards under 7, 24 cards over 7, and 4 sevens in a 52-card deck, so both even-money lanes and the 7 lose about 7.7% over a long run. The 7 looks generous because it is rare. The price still sits short of the chance.

7 Up 7 Down payouts

• 7 Down wins on ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.
• 7 Up wins on 8, 9, 10, jack, queen or king.
• A 7 takes both side bets. Only the 7 lane is paid, at 11 to 1.

7 Up 7 Down odds

There are four sevens in a 52-card deck, and twenty-four cards on each side of them. Ace counts as low, so it is 7 Down, not a picture. 8 through king, including jack, queen and king, is 7 Up. Both even-money lanes and the 7 itself lose about 7.7% over a long run on these prices. The 11 to 1 price is the part people remember, because a ₹100 win on the 7 returns ₹1,200 in total. It is still short of the chance of hitting a seven.

This sits in the same room as Teen Patti and Andar Bahar, and it is the shortest decision of the three. One card, then the next hand is already there. A ₹50 stake adds up for that reason. The demo uses one shuffled deck. If a cash table adds two cards together, you are on a different game, even if the felt still says 7 Up 7 Down.
